Thanks for checking out my how to make origami balls site! Click here if you'd like to see the video of how I made this origami ball! (Note: It may take a few seconds for the video to load, so please be patient. Thank you!)
| 1. |
Start with a letter-sized paper (8.5 inches x 11 inches) |
| 2. |
Fold one corner so the edges are flush and you are left with a thin rectangle at the bottom. Cut off that rectangle. |
| 3. |
Now you should have a square piece of paper that is folded diagonally. |
| 4. |
Now fold it the other way so the fold makes an "X." |
| 5. |
Now with the flat end towards you, fold the opposite end towards you so that the outside edges fold inward. |
| 6. |
Finish the fold by creasing the inside edges. |
| 7. |
Your fold should look like this on the interior. |
| 8. |
Now fold one of the bottom corners to the top point. |
| 9. |
Repeat on the other side. |
| 10. |
Now that you have a diamond shape, take the outisde right corner and fold it in so that it touches the center line. |
| 11. |
Repeat on the left side. |
| 12. |
At the point of the triangle, fold one corner outward so that it folds over the diamond shape we had earlier. |
| 13. |
Then you will fold it back in so that it is now the same size and shape as the corner of that diamond shape. |
| 14. |
Next we'll take those past two folds and tuck them under the corner of the diamond. |
| 15. |
Your resulting shape should resemble this. |
| 16. |
You will repeat the last three folds on this side as well: Fold the free corner outward. |
| 17. |
Then back in so it fits the corner of the diamond/triangle shape on that side. |
| 18. |
After tucking those two folds under the flap, your ball thus far should look like this: |
| 19. |
Flip your triangle and repeat the same process, beginning with the fold upward to the point of the triangle. |
| 20. |
Repeat on the other side so that now you?re back at having a diamond shape. |
| 21. |
Bring the right side corner in so that it now lies on the center line, and crease that edge. |
| 22. |
Now take a free point and fold it outward and down, so it sticks out like this: |
| 23. |
Fold that corner back in and tuck it under the flap that lies on the center line. |
| 24. |
After tucking, repeat on the other side. |
| 25. |
Fold the point outward and down. |
| 26. |
Then fold the protruding edge inward so it fits the same shape as the folded traingle that lies on the center line. |
| 27. |
Your resulting shape should resemble this: |
| 28. |
Now take the sides that were on the interior of the side edges and fold the entire shape so that the two points on either side are now on the interior fold. |
| 29. |
Locate the side that has a hole, and give it a great puff of air, and it should look like this: |
| 30. |
Congratulations on your Origami Ball!! |
